Are you looking for a way to improve the appearance of your skin without going under the knife? PRF microneedling is a skin rejuvenation treatment that is minimally invasive and requires little to no downtime. It can transform the appearance of skin affected by facial aging, hyperpigmentation, acne scars, and more.
What is microneedling?
Microneedling is a skin treatment involving the use of a small, handheld device to form microscopic punctures in the surface of the skin. The device is covered in very tiny, sterile needles that pierce the skin without harming surrounding skin tissue. Over the following weeks and months, your skin will remodel itself to reduce visible imperfections.
Microneedling stimulates your own body into producing brand new collagen and elastin to replace damaged and aged skin tissue. Over the following weeks and months after your microneedling session, your body will be turning over new skin cells that will be replaced by new ones. The result is a reduction in problems like fine lines and wrinkles, abnormal pigmentation, stretch marks, and scars caused by trauma, injury or surgery.
One of the great things about microneedling is that it enhances the skin penetration of almost anything applied to the skin in conjunction with the treatment. This is because the microscopic injuries created by the microneedling treatment forms thousands of tiny channels in the skin. The outer barrier of the skin, called the stratum corneum, normally acts as a shield to prevent the penetration of topicals. Microneedling helps to bypass this barrier, dramatically enhancing product absorption and effectiveness.

Platelet-Rich Fibrin (PRF)
PRF with microneedling takes advantage of the fact that the treatment allows for superior topical absorption. Platelet-Rich Fibrin is a blood product created from the patient’s own blood, containing platelets, plasma, white blood cells, and stem cells.
PRF is a natural blood product made from the patient’s extracted blood. It allows for a completely natural healing process that restores and rejuvenates the skin from within, reducing the signs of visible aging and numerous skin imperfections.
PRF Microneedling FAQs:
The following are some frequently asked questions about PRF microneedling:
How is PRF different from PRP?
Platelet-Rich Plasma (PRP) is another type of blood product created from a patient’s blood. The difference comes down to the ingredients, ratio of ingredients, and how the products are created. PRF is, like PRP, created by spinning the patient’s blood in a centrifuge. With PRF, the centrifuge is spun at a lower speed, allowing for more cells and growth factors to be collected and harvested.
PRF is also different from PRP in that it is a 100% natural product, while PRP contains additives like anti-coagulants. Without these additives, PRF allows fibrin scaffolding to naturally develop and gradually release contained growth factors into your skin. The fact that PRF results in a gradual release of growth factors leads to longer-lasting results.
What can I expect during my PRF microneedling treatment?
Your provider will draw a small amount of blood from you, which will be spun in a slow-speed centrifuge, separating out red blood cells. This PRF blood product will then be used during your microneedling treatment.
Your provider will likely apply a numbing cream to the area of treatment before you undergo your PRF microneedling treatment. After your skin is completely numb, they will move the microneedling device over your skin in a series of sweeps and combine the treatment with the application of the PRF blood product.
PRF will work with your own body to restore and rejuvenate your skin over time. It may take a few weeks or months to see the full results of your PRF microneedling treatment. Most patients benefit from multiple treatment sessions spaced a week or more apart.
