Double Chin

Chesapeake Laser and Skin Care Center is excited to be able to offer two new FDA-approved treatments specifically targeting stubborn deposits of fat under the chin and on the neck; Kybella® and CoolSculpting® Mini. These two procedures target and kill fat cells that are then safely and naturally eliminated from the body over the next few months. The result is spectacular according to our patients, giving them back the youthful neck and chin contours that age, lifestyle or genetics had taken away.

Getting Rid Of

Your Double Chin

Fullness under the chin and in the neck area is one sign of aging that is impossible to hide or conceal with clothing. If you are concerned with accumulations of chin and neck fat, you are among many who want a solution to this cosmetic flaw. A recent study conducted by the American Society for Dermatologic Surgery found that 68% of people were unhappy with their double chin or the full appearance of their neck.

Until recently the only option was plastic surgery, primarily liposuction. The trend toward nonsurgical solutions to combat the signs of aging has become stronger over the past few years, particularly in facial procedures. In alignment with that trend, there are now exciting nonsurgical solutions for permanently ridding the chin and neck of unwanted fat. If you are among the millions of Americans who dislike the look of their neck, please read on.

About the procedure

Side effects are minimal with most patients experiencing slight tenderness at the injection sites as well as mild swelling. Any post-treatment discomfort is well managed with over-the-counter pain medication.

Kybella must be administered by a trained professional to avoid involving skin cells. At Chesapeake Laser and Skin Care Center patients are only treated by licensed and trained professionals. Founded by four exceptionally talented and board-certified plastic surgeons and Health Care Professionals, Chesapeake Laser and Skin professionals have safely delivered tens of thousands of rejuvenation treatments.

Kybella was approved in April as a non-surgical injectable treatment for moderate-to-severe fat located under the chin. The active ingredient is identical to an acid produced by the body to absorb fat cells. This acid destroys the cell membrane, which in turn destroys the cell, and allows the body to safely eliminate it. Tested in over 1000 adults in two clinical studies, Kybella is proven to be effective and safe, leaving other cells intact and untouched.

A Kybella treatment is normally 20 to 30 minutes long depending on the area to be treated. Before treatment, a topical anesthetic is applied to keep patients comfortable during the procedure. Injections are made with extremely small gauge needles just into the fat layer. Each session may have between 15 and 45 micro-injections to ensure full coverage of the treatment area. Most patients will need between 3 to 6 sessions scheduled no more than a month apart and will see definite improvement after the second treatment.
