Aramis™ Laser for Acne Treatment

The Aramis™ Laser uses a patented wavelength to penetrate the skin’s layers to the sebaceous
glands. The laser thermally alters the reactors in the sebaceous gland, reducing oil and bacteria production, decreasing the size of the gland and the incident of acne.

A series of four to five procedures is administered, usually two weeks apart. Results are gradual and an approximate 20% reduction in the number of lesions after each treatment. The unique contact cooling of the Aramis laser makes the treatment virtually painless, with no need for anesthesia and no associated side-effects, ensuring patient comfort and greater treatment compliance.

Laser acne therapy:

• Has been proven to help both adolescent and adult acne and acne scars.
• Can be used to treat both men and women with all different skin types and colors. (Pregnant women and people with photo sensitivities should consult their physicians before undergoing treatments.)

You need to prepare your skin before undergoing Laser Acne Therapy.

• The area needs to be cleansed with a gentle soap and dried.
• Women should remove their make-up before the treatment (which can be re-applied directly following the procedure) and wear oil-free make-up in between appointments.

Each treatment takes about 15 to 20 minutes to perform, and the number of treatments needed will vary on the severity of your acne or acne scars. On average, acne treatment requires 4-5 treatments performed two weeks apart, and acne scar correction treatments require 4-5 treatments performed 4 weeks apart.

You will notice a reduction in the number of blemishes and the severity of acne scars with each treatment. Once your skin is significantly improved or clear you will be recommended to get periodic treatments to prevent the acne from reappearing. Acne scar maintenance treatments are recommended every six months. Keep in mind your acne and/or acne scars took time to appear, therefore it will take time for your body to solve the problem.

Laser Acne Treatments are usually not painful and do not require anesthesia. Some patients may experience a slight tingling or burning sensation at the individual treatment sites, which will only last a few seconds. For people with overly sensitive skin, a topical anesthetic can be used over the treatment area before the actual laser treatments are administered. There are no known side effects.

The treatment doesn’t “cure” acne, as acne has no known complete “cure”. This is simply because we cannot change our genetics or completely remove the oil from our skin (and even if we could we wouldn't want to because of its many important functions). However, Laser Acne Therapy, the first FDA approved drugless treatment for acne, is a step in the right direction! Laser therapy effectively clears 70%-90% of moderate inflammatory acne in four to six weeks. Results are especially impressive when compared with conventional treatments, such as topical creams and oral antibiotics.

Since the treatment can now address the cause of your acne at its source, outbreaks can effectively be controlled for approximately 4-8 months; after that only occasional touch-ups may be necessary! Since every condition is different, with some cases being more severe than others, the cost depends on how many treatments are actually necessary for your particular problem. Some insurance companies do cover this treatment when considered medically necessary. However, insurance reimbursement varies from state to state and from carrier to carrier.

Some other procedures that will help improve acne include medical microdermabrasions and chemical peels, combined with a few medical grade products. These are supplementary, showing great additive effects.

Here are a few tips that can help keep your skin to remain clear between and after your treatments:

• Wash your face at least two times a day and as soon as possible after you exercise with a gentle soap. Keep in mind that you should use a fresh washcloth each day since bacteria can grow on a damp washcloth.
• Wash your hands frequently and avoid putting your fingers or hands on your face to avoid unnecessary bacteria transfer. Be careful not to rest your face on your hands while reading, studying, or watching TV.
• Despite popular beliefs, greasy foods and/or chocolate do not cause acne, however if a certain food causes an allergic acne reaction, avoid it at all costs.
• Practice stress-reduction techniques such as exercising and meditation because stress can decrease our body’s immune system and slow down the healing process.
• Avoid getting sunburn.
• Don’t squeeze or scratch your skin pimples, it can lead to scarring.
• Eat right and get plenty of sleep - proper diet and rest will keep your immune system strong to fight acne-forming bacteria.
